Some Background
The class of commercial roofing membranes commonly described as “single-ply” are flexible sheets of compounded synthetic materials that are manufactured in a factory to strict quality control requirements.
Single-Ply roofing membranes are common roofing substrates in the commercial roofing industry. Single-Ply roofing, or a “rubber roof”, come in a variety of different materials including EPDM, PVC, Hypalon and TPO membranes. As these membranes age and weather, the seams and flashing details can fail. The membrane may then lose its flexibility and in some instances, it can shrink. Excessive wear, chalking, cracking and punctures can lead to water infiltration.
United Asphalt‘s Armour Proof Coating Systems offer a wide variety of solutions to further protect these membranes. We offer products for reinforcing the seams and penetrations, “white” reflective coating systems and full coating systems.
Armour Ply 10 – Coating Only System
These systems provide a fully adhered, reflective, liquid coating to protect the roof membrane from further UV degradation. Depending on the slope of the roof, it must be determined whether a water-based or solvent-based coating system should be applied.
Due to the various types of Single-Ply Systems we recommend an adhesion test to determine which coating to use.
Our systems start by pressure washing the surface to provide a clean, dry and sound substrate. We offer Primers to enhance and encapsulate the surface. AP-1200 EPDM Primer/Cleaner is used to assist in the cleaning of black EPDM roof. While AP-1300 Primer/Sealer is used on asphaltic and previously painted/chalking surfaces. |

Once cleaned and primed, the roof is ready for the appropriate roof coating.AP-3100 Acrylic Base Coat, AP-3200 Acrylic Finish Coat, AP-6100 Modified Liquid Rubber, AP-5100 Moisture Cure Urethane or AP-5200 Silicone Coating. |
Armour Ply 20 – Partially Reinforced System
These systems are fully adhered, seamless membranes with superior weatherability. The polyester reinforcement fabric is used at critical areas, such as pipes, curbs, perimeter, and seams. These monolithic, sustainable roofing systems will yield a final minimum membrane thickness of 20 mils throughout the field of the roof and 45 mils at the reinforced area.

Armour Ply 30 – Fully Reinforced System
These systems are fluid-applied, fully reinforced membrane designed for application to a variety roof substrates. The polyester fabric is used at the critical areas and the entire roof. These systems will provide a fully adhered, seamless and reinforced membrane system throughout the roof ensuring superior weatherability. This monolithic, sustainable roofing system will yield a final minimum membrane thickness of 45 mils.

Add Structure to the first coating. While first coat is still wet, embed AP-8100 Polyester Fabric into the coating and saturate with more coating. |

Finish Things OffOnce dry, the appropriate Finish Coat is applied. Two coats of AP-3200 Acrylic Finish Coat are used over the AP-3100 Acrylic Base Coat. For low-sloped applications, two coats of either the AP-6100 Modified Liquid Rubber, AP-5100 Moisture Cure Urethane or AP-5200 Silicone Coating are applied. |
