Metal Roof Coating Systems

Some Background

Metal roofing is primarily made of steel or aluminum though, copper, zinc and titanium are also used in specialized architectural applications for homes.

As metal roof systems age, they deteriorate and cannot remain watertight. Changes in temperature and UV rays cause expansion and contraction and can lead to a host of issues including fasteners backing out, missing gaskets and seals, open seams, failed flashings and eroded surfaces. Without proper maintenance, metal roofs can eventually rust and degrade.

United Asphalt‘s Armour Proof Coating Systems offer many different types of systems to maintain metal roofs. From repairs to the seams, fasteners and flashings, to a complete liquid membrane, we can design a system to meet your needs and budget.

Armour Ply 10 – Coating Only System

These systems provide a fully adhered, reflective, liquid coating to protect the roof membrane from further UV degradation. Depending on the slope of the roof, it must be determined whether a water-based or solvent-based coating system should be applied.

Our systems start by pressure washing the surface to provide a clean, dry and sound substrate.

We offer Primers to enhance and encapsulate the surface. AP-1100 Rust Inhibitive Primer is used on areas where corrosion is present.

Once cleaned and primed, the roof is ready for the appropriate roof coating.

AP-3100 Acrylic Base Coat and AP-3200 Acrylic Finish Coat are used over most roof systems. For low-sloped applications, we offer AP-6100 Modified Liquid Rubber or AP-5100 Moisture Cure Urethane.

Armour Ply 20 – Partially Reinforced System

These systems are fully adhered, seamless membranes with superior weatherability. The polyester reinforcement fabric is used at critical areas, such as pipes, curbs, perimeter, and seams. These monolithic, sustainable roofing systems will yield a final minimum membrane thickness of 20 mils throughout the field of the roof and 45 mils at the reinforced area.

Reinforce the seams and penetrations of the roof.

AP-2300 Acrylic Mastic is used on horizontal seams, fasteners and penetrations of a metal roof. The AP-3100 Acrylic Base Coat and AP-8100 Polyester Fabric are used around penetrations, seams, laps and other critical areas where movement or splits occur. For low-sloped areas, the AP-6100 Modified Liquid Rubber or AP-5100 Moisture Cure Urethane and AP-8100 Polyester Fabric are used.
